Vocational Opportunities

Bee - Students to get trained in the art of bee keeping and manage their own beehives that are used on school farms for pollination events on the farm and other locations. This will include the skills of maintaining a hive, re-queening a colony, splitting a hive, assessment of mite pressure, assessment of hive health, and bee advocacy. Also honey harvesting and processing, wax harvesting, assessment of forage area. Typical hours are 2-3 hours a day once a week.

Be.fresh farm worker - Students will be trained in farm skills that include tractor driving, pruning, planting, harvesting, use of cover crops, equipment operation, soil assessment, plant health assessment, and sustainable farming practices. Students will be trained in the field in irrigation setup, crop selection, crop id, transplanting and seeding, grape pruning, and treepruning. Students will also be trained in hydroponic growing, planting, harvesting, nutrient assessment, system maintenance. Also will work in the greenhouse transplanting, plant health assessment, and ornamental propagation. Typical hours of operation are 4 hours a day 4 days a week. Students are required to pass tractor safety test.
